VeCommerce bets on TelecityGroup to support launch of new service
Management of critical infrastructure outsourced to provide resilient environment to support hosted speech-recognition application16 January 2008: VeCommerce, a global leader in the provision of advanced speech recognition applications, has selected TelecityGroup as its managed hosting provider for its Hosted VeBet™ service.
VeBet™ Hosted is an application used by betting agencies to allow their customers to place bets, gain prices or get a result by using speech recognition technology. The betting industry demands very high levels of connectivity and support, as any delays in service or downtime translate into lost revenues.
Paul Gibson, Operations Manager at VeCommerce, comments: “Handling peaks in traffic is a huge problem in the betting industry, as call traffic surges dramatically just before an event. As a means of coping with this, we decided to outsource the critical infrastructure and management of VeBet™ Hosted to TelecityGroup. It enables us to load-balance the calls across the infrastructure, and guarantee the reliability of our service.”
The VeBet™ Hosted application is provided to customers on a Software-as-a-Service model, where they pay a monthly fee based on the expected number of call transactions. The application is hosted in the TelecityGroup data centre, and when a bet is placed the bet information is sent over a Virtual Private Network to the betting interface.
Paul states: “In the future we plan to expand the application to target other market sectors such as financial services, where it can be used for security purposes. Again, this is an area which requires the highest levels of resilience, and we are certain TelecityGroup has the infrastructure to support this. They have been incredibly attentive to our needs, and delivered a very high level of service.”
