Jurgen Zilg
Sales manager, Germany
I joined TelecityGroup in January 2002 as sales manager. I have a background in the industry and was attracted to TelecityGroup because it was a young and exciting business. Importantly for me, TelecityGroup has a strong presence across Europe but we have the autonomy to manage our businesses locally too – the best of both worlds.
Always learning, always improving
Obviously in sales my role starts at customer acquisition. But about 40% of all project management comes through sales, so my role is far wider than a basic sales job. I get a lot out of working with people and that’s what keeps it interesting. There’s no typical day for me: I’m always learning and always improving – and I’ve been doing this job for eight years. There aren’t many jobs you can say that about!
Showcasing very visible technology
The best aspect of working with technology is that it enables you to show something tangible and demonstrate its benefits. With our facilities, we can show a customer the data centre and demonstrate the great technologies that we have for our service offering. Having ‘visible’ technology really helps customers to understand the benefits we can bring.
Even though I’ve been doing the same job since 2002, each day is different and my skills in terms of managing people, projects and the business have improved immensely since I have been here. Being part of TelecityGroup and helping establish it in Germany is hugely stimulating.
