Level 3 expands Scandinavian connectivity with TelecityGroup
New point of presence supports increasing data demands in one of Europe’s most connected regions
TelecityGroup today announced that Level 3 Communications Inc. (NYSE: LVLT), a leading international provider of fibre-based communications services, has expanded its core networking infrastructure from TelecityGroup’s Stockholm I site to its new state-of-the-art Stockholm II data centre via a new point of presence (PoP). The expansion builds on the existing relationship with TelecityGroup across Europe, and is enabling Level 3 to extend its European network to support increasing business demand for data services across Scandinavia.
Level 3 operates one of the world's largest internet backbones, providing transport, data, voice, Internet, content and media delivery services to wholesale and content customers. The PoP at TelecityGroup’s newest Stockholm facility will allow Level 3 to support the continued growth of the digital economy across the Scandinavian region, which enjoys an Internet penetration rate of 92.5 percent – one of the world’s highest.
James Heard, President European Markets at Level 3, comments: “For our network to continue to provide optimum, low-latency services for our customers in increasingly networked world, we need to ensure we have a presence at the key strategic data centres around Europe. We already work with TelecityGroup in the UK, France and Germany, so have first-hand knowledge of the facilities the company provides. Expanding to TelecityGroup’s highly-connected new facility will ensure we can support ever-increasing data demands across Scandinavia.”
TelecityGroup’s customers in Sweden will be able to enjoy additional connectivity options through Level 3’s network across key global markets, encompassing 21 European countries and locations in the Middle East and the Americas.
Niclas Sanfridsson, Managing Director of TelecityGroup Sweden, comments: “Scandinavia has a clear reputation in Europe for being extremely advanced in terms of internet usage and this translates into continued demand for data services across the region, as users look to utilise increasing bandwidth-heavy applications. The extended presence of Level 3’s network at our state-of-the-art facility enables the company to continue to support these demands, as well as offering our own customers additional global peering and connectivity options.”
