TelecityGroup announces new data centre in Milan New facility will provide growth capacity in one of Western Europe’s fastest growing network independent data centre markets.

Telecity Group plc ('TelecityGroup' or the 'Group'), the leading pan-European operator of network independent data centres, today announces that it will open a second data centre in Milan. Ongoing customer demand and overall utilisation in TelecityGroup’s existing facility in Milan is high and the new data centre will ensure the Group continues to have growth capacity in one of Europe’s fastest growing data centre markets. The new facility will be the Group’s 22nd data centre in Europe.
Luca Beltramino, Managing Director of TelecityGroup Italy, commented: “Customers are increasingly seeking network independent, resilient data centres to provide secure hosting and connectivity services. The continued growth of the internet economy and the evolving online needs of business both locally and internationally are combining to drive the increase in demand for high-quality data centres.”
In total the data centre will offer approximately 2,000 square metres and over 2.5 megawatts of customer capacity. The facility will be ready for service in the first half of 2009 and cost approximately €8 million to build which will be fully financed from TelecityGroup’s existing bank facilities.

Factors driving this demand include the proliferation of digitised content such as video, movies and streaming media over the internet for domestic and business purposes. The new facility in Milan will enable us to take advantage of the strong demand from the digital economy for highly connected data centre environments and, at the same time, support the increasing power, space and connectivity requirements of our existing customers so that they can continue to grow.”
