TelecityGroup opens new state-of-the-art data centre in Paris

Facility provides 6.4 megawatts of customer power to meet ongoing demand. Data centre designed to maximise energy efficiency. Waste energy used to heat Climate Change Arboretum for scientific research.

TelecityGroup, Europe’s industry-leading provider of premium network independent data centres, has opened its new Paris data centre, Condorcet, designed and built to be one of the most technically advanced and energy efficient data centres in Europe.

To meet increasing data centre demand in France, the facility will provide 3,400 square metres of customer space and 6.4MW of total customer power, enabling the Group to enhance its capacity in one of Europe's largest data centre markets. Condorcet represents a €48m investment by the Group, its 23rd data centre in Europe and the third in the French capital.

The new Paris facility is at the forefront of data centre innovation both in terms of design and technology, and champions TelecityGroup’s commitment to lead environmental best-practice across the industry. It uses free cooling to reduce energy consumption, a white roof to mitigate solar gain and has been designed at every level to maximise both energy efficiency and operational performance.

These innovations will provide a significant reduction in power consumed at Condorcet compared to a standard data centre infrastructure, equivalent to an annual reduction in power consumption of 28 million kWh, or 2,500 tonnes of CO2 per year.

Waste energy from the facility will be used to heat a ‘Climate Change Arboretum’ built on-site, which will recreate the climatic conditions expected to prevail in France in 2050. Société Forestière and the French National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA), with whom TelecityGroup has an agreement, will use the arboretum to grow and research plants from around the world with the aim of selecting those species most adaptable to changes in the prevailing climatic conditions.

From launch, the site will house the new internet exchange point France-IX, offering Condorcet customers both national and international peering options. The data centre is certified for international standards ISO 27001 for security and ISO 9001 for quality control. It has also been designed to meet the OHSAS 18001 standard for health control and work safety, and ISO 14001 which attests to an efficient environmental management system.

Stéphane Duproz, CEO of TelecityGroup France commented: "The exponential growth in customer demand for data centre power, space and connectivity in France reflects the crucial importance of the digital economy to modern society. As industry leaders, our data centres need to be designed to be as energy efficient as possible in order to minimise the environmental impact of our activities. Condorcet’s innovative design, both in terms of service level guarantees and low carbon footprint, shows how we are continuing to drive best environmental best practice in Europe.”
