Leading hospitality chain De Vere Group chooses TelecityGroup to host its core IT infrastructure
De Vere moves to innovative virtualisation technology to maximise efficiency of IT footprint
De Vere Group, the luxury hotel and hospitality chain, today announced that it has chosen to host its core IT infrastructure in one of TelecityGroup’s state-of-the-art data centres in Manchester. The move will enable De Vere Group to ensure the resilience of its centralised infrastructure, ensuring each of the company’s sixty-five locations across the UK has availability of business-critical systems at all times.
De Vere Group has over 30 years’ experience of providing locations for both business and leisure – from country homes to London business centres to tree houses. The overall resilience of De Vere Group’s central IT infrastructure is critical to the effective running of its 65 locations across the UK. Each location runs on a thin client model where the Group’s key back-end systems - including its file storage, meetings and events databases, financial systems and HR systems - are hosted centrally rather than remotely at each location. In total, the Group stores and processes over 18 Terrabytes of data centrally. By locating its infrastructure in TelecityGroup’s secure, resilient and highly connected facility, De Vere Group is able to rely on the constant availability of these data-intensive systems.
The premium environment provided by TelecityGroup is also enabling De Vere Group to implement an innovative virtualisation project, designed to reduce the company’s overall IT footprint. Through server consolidation and the installation of Blade Servers, De Vere Group expects to achieve a £100,000 reduction in the running cost of its IT.
Jo Stanford, IT Director, De Vere Group commented: “Our central IT systems are the heartbeat of our business. Any downtime would have a severe impact on our business; both in terms of the service we provide our customers and our overall revenue. Therefore we need to have total confidence in our central infrastructure. This meant working with a well-known, premium data centre provider - and TelecityGroup was the natural choice for us. By hosting our core IT infrastructure in TelecityGroup’s highly connected Manchester facility, we have access to the key telecom networks through which we can serve our 65 locations, all from within a secure and resilient environment”.
Adriaan Oosthoek, Managing Director, TelecityGroup UK said: “As companies continue to move more data online, the security, resilience and reliability of centralised IT systems have become key to ensuring ongoing business success and customer loyalty. We’re delighted that De Vere Group has recognised our expertise in providing the premium underlying infrastructure to support the company in this process.”
In addition to its eight data centres in London, TelecityGroup operates three data centres in central Manchester, hosting IT infrastructure for some of the world’s largest organisations as well as local Manchester-based technology start-ups. It will soon open Joule House, its fourth facility in Manchester, which is located next to MediaCity. As part of TelecityGroup’s continuing investment strategy in the region, Joule House will significantly expand the data centre capacity in the greater Manchester area, helping to attract international businesses and jobs to the area.
