"We recognised immediately that Powergate could provide us with the capacity and ability to cope with much more advanced technology.....The security of the site was impressive and the environment which was purpose built for high density hosting was ideal in meeting our planned expansion. When we migrated to Powergate, the TelecityGroup team were particularly helpful thanks to their technical ability and flexible approach."

Supporting a growing company

Acuutech Limited is a comprehensive IT Solutions Provider based in Essex, UK,  providing end-to-end IT solutions for customers in the UK and Europe. It installs, manages and maintains business technology with dedicated engineers for services such as helpdesk support or onsite maintenance.

Most of Acuutech’s key services are delivered over the network, and the company hosts information and systems for 2,000 of its customers with TelecityGroup. Increasingly, Acuutech is delivering managed hosted services for its expanding customer base based on a secure cloud computing model.

As more of its business moves online, the company’s IT systems have expanded considerably, as have their hosting requirements. In order to ensure that Acuutech’s critical infrastructure was maintained at optimum levels to support its business growth and maintain business continuity, it became apparent that it would need to upgrade its hosting facilities. Priti Mehta, Managing Director, Acuutech, explains:

“The cloud computing model offers a more flexible and scalable solution both for us and our customers, and enables quicker, more efficient deployment of our services. Delivering these services from the cloud requires an extended data centre estate – we need to host more equipment, and in particular increase our blade server environment, so our requirements from TelecityGroup have changed considerably. We wanted to make sure we had the most efficient set up possible to provide a secure, stable platform for our services.”

Acuutech worked with TelecityGroup to develop a solution that would continue to meet the company’s changing needs. The key requirement was more data centre space to host Acuutech’s growing infrastructure, which in turn would require more power. It was agreed that migrating to  TelecityGroup’s new central London data centre, Powergate, would best provide the flexibility in space and power requirements for Acuutech’s business. The new facility, offers approximately 5,000 square metres of data centre space and 10 megawatts of customer capacity, providing between 4kW-20kW of power per rack, making it ideal for high density hosting and to support a cloud computing model.

“We recognised immediately that Powergate could provide us with the capacity and ability to cope with much more advanced technology,” Mehta said. “The security of the site was impressive and the environment which was purpose built for high density hosting was ideal in meeting our planned expansion.”

The right people for the job

To facilitate the smooth migration process, TelecityGroup formed a project management team of engineers. The team worked closely with the Acuutech’s technical team, and developed a detailed plan, ensuring that each technical and logistical aspect of the migration was considered.

Priti Mehta explains: “Ensuring the migration process didn’t have any effect on our services was our priority. It would have been unacceptable for us and our customers if the service experienced any downtime during work hours. It was essential the two teams worked closely together as a partnership to plan and implement the migration. The TelecityGroup team were particularly helpful at this stage thanks to their technical ability and flexible approach.”

Through a series of onsite meetings with the engineers, the teams decided the migration should take place during a 8 hour time period, and that the best time would be between 10pm and 6am, to ensure minimum disruption to Acuutech’s customers. The TelecityGroup team also provided Acuutech’s staff with a two week demonstration of the new facilities, at which point the Acuutech team could test the robust connectivity into the facility.

When testing was complete, dedicated engineers arrived at the London Docklands facility to begin dismantling the equipment, the engineers then liaised with a special logistics unit to transport the equipment to Powergate. The engineers and project managers were ready on site at the Powergate facility in West London when the equipment arrived to manage the installation process, and ensure the efficient installation and security of the equipment. The migration of Acuutech’s services, including their TelecityGroup IP Multihome solution for highly resilient connectivity, were successfully deployed on schedule with minimal disruption.

Mehta commented: “The careful planning of the transfer and allocated time for each task meant the move had minimal impact on our services and clients. The team at TelecityGroup were incredibly professional and efficient, and guaranteed the seamless migration to ensure we could continue business as usual.”

Powering expansion

By transferring its infrastructure to TelecityGroup’s Powergate facility, Acuutech can be confident that as the company grows, the facility has the power capabilities to cope with the increasing demands on the infrastructure, enabling the implementation of services in the cloud computing model.
