TelecityGroup announces second data centre in Stockholm
New facility will fulfil existing and future demand in evolving market
TelecityGroup, the leading pan-European operator of network independent data centres, today announces that it will open a new state-of-the-art data centre in Stockholm in response to growing customer requirements and wider market demand. This will be TelecityGroup’s second data centre in the city and 23rd data centre in Europe.
Niclas Sanfridsson, Managing Director of TelecityGroup Sweden, commented: “Customers are increasingly seeking premium network independent, resilient data centres to provide secure hosting and connectivity services. The continued growth of the digital economy and the evolving data centre needs of enterprise in Sweden are combining to drive the increase in demand for high-quality data centres.”
The new facility will offer high levels of connectivity to major local and international telecoms and network service providers. In addition, Netnod, the Swedish Internet exchange, will have a live presence on the site from launch, offering global peering and connectivity options for customers. A leading global systems integrator, currently a customer in TelecityGroup’s existing Stockholm data centre, has also already agreed to be a customer for the new facility when it opens in the first half of 2009.
Kurt-Erik Lindqvist, Managing Director of Netnod, commented: “Netnod is excited to be part of TelecityGroup’s expansion in Stockholm. We are proud to be able to support and provide additional services for TelecityGroup’s growing customer base. Our infrastructure will provide enhanced peering opportunities for TelecityGroup customers and will both supplement and improve the overall connectivity offering in the data centre.”
The data centre is to be launched in phases from the first half of 2009. In total, the new data centre will provide approximately 4 megawatts of customer power and some 2,800 square metres of customer space. . TelecityGroup expects to invest around £29 million in the project.
Michael Tobin, CEO of TelecityGroup, commented: “The new data centre in Stockholm will ensure we have new growth capacity available just as our existing data centre is approaching full utilisation. This will enable us to take advantage of the consistently strong new demand in the market and, at the same time, to support the increasing power, space and connectivity requirements of our existing customers so that they can continue to grow.”
