TelecityGroup helps Toys“R”Us re-launch e-commerce site
New interactive site has the reliability and security to cope with increase in traffic and content
Toys”R”Us has re-launched its ecommerce site to support the growing popularity of online shopping, and enhance the customer experience by adding interactive content. To ensure the constant availability of the site and the security of online payments, Toys”R”Us has chosen TelecityGroup to provide fully managed hosting, security and back-up.
Toys”R”Us is a well-established online retailer, launching over twelve years ago. However, over the last year popularity in online shopping has surged and an expected 36 per cent of shoppers are planning to do more online shopping in 2009. For Toys”R”Us it is important to make the site animated and interesting to potential customers in order to lift the sales conversion rate, and in late 2008 this site was re-launched to include more interactive services such as rotating images, and more regular products additions.
Mike Coogan, Marketing and E-Commerce Director, Toys”R”Us explains: “We made the decision to outsource the hosting and security of the site to a specialist, to guarantee we could deliver consistent quality of service while focusing on the site’s content. TelecityGroup’s highly resilient and secure facilities, combined with their skilled staff, offered just the service we were looking for. Our focus is to maintain a good customer experience on the website; it can make the difference between a sale and someone looking elsewhere.”
Toys”R”Us worked with TelecityGroup to design and implement an infrastructure to suit its capacity needs, including fully managed Linux servers, connectivity, load balancing, managed switches and managed backup for business continuity. In addition, managed firewall and Intrusion Detection Prevention help to protect the website and customer information.
Adriaan Oosthoek, Managing Director of TelecityGroup UK and Ireland, says: “Growth in online retail continues to be resilient as it offers both cost-savings and convenience to the shopper. However, retailers are not just competing on price; end user experience and security are also important. It is essential the underlying infrastructure can support both the content provisioning requirements and large and fluctuating peaks in traffic which online retail sites experience. We are very happy that Toys”R”Us has recognised our expertise in designing and managing infrastructure platforms for online retailers, and we look forward to working with them.”
