TelecityGroup highly commended for environmental policy at National eWell-Being Awards
TelecityGroup, Europe's leading provider of premium network independent data centres, has been highly commended in the ‘Greening Data Centres’ category at the National eWell-Being Awards.
The awards promote the tangible benefits that IT can bring to society, the economy and to the environment, and the commendation recognises TelecityGroup’s dedication to improving the energy efficiency of its data centre estate.
Over the last year, TelecityGroup has led the industry in its practical and measured approach to environmental responsibility. It has deployed a range of innovative technologies within its facilities to improve energy efficiency. In addition, TelecityGroup was the first network independent data centre provider to apply the EU’s Code of Conduct for Data Centres - a framework for industry best practice – and by the end of 2009 all 22 data centres will be fully compliant with the Code.
The awards were launched in 2002 by Sustain, an initiative of the UK Centre for Economic and Environmental Development (UK CEED), and received over 1,000 entries this year. Chris Murray, CEO, UK CEED comments: “TelecityGroup’s three step approach to reducing its carbon cost has shown excellent commitment.”
Michael Tobin, CEO of TelecityGroup commented: “We are dedicated to continually improving the environmental performance of our data centre facilities, and are building energy efficient processes into every aspect of the company. This nomination is testament to the company’s efforts over the past year, and we are delighted to be recognised for such a prestigious award.”
