TelecityGroup secures payments and customer data with renewed PCI DSS accreditation
Customers achieve accreditation quicker as both online threats and ecommerce increase
TelecityGroup, Europe's leading provider of premium network independent data centres, today announced the renewal of its Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) accreditation, enabling its customers to easily secure payments and customer data.
Recent figures showed that online commerce has grown by 857 per cent since 2002, and by 2012, one in every five pounds spent in the UK will be online. However, security threats are also growing considerably; it is estimated that data theft and breaches cost businesses worldwide approximately one trillion dollars . The PCI DSS accreditation system was designed to protect consumers and businesses from these threats, and for online retailers non-compliance can result in the closure of payment mechanisms.
TelecityGroup was one of the first data centre operators to offer PCI-DSS, helping its customers to meet the security requirements outlined in the accreditation process.
Geoff Donson, Group Security Manager for TelecityGroup comments: “As more and more business is conducted online, so the opportunity for theft of money or data grows. Secure facilities are therefore essential to safeguard any business-critical system, but the cost and complexity of achieving the right level of security can become an issue. So by offering PCI-DSS compliance, we can help reduce some of the burden on our customers, allowing them to focus on delivering valuable services.”
Accreditation is achieved by meeting 12 criteria, ranging from physical access control to network security. TelecityGroup’s PCI-DSS compliance to these strict standards means customers can reduce the cost of achieving accreditation. TelecityGroup works with a range of online retailers such as Jewellery Channel, eSpares and Toys R Us.
