The Planet selects TelecityGroup for European expansion

TelecityGroup to provide infrastructure and connectivity for leading US IT hosting provider, as part of international expansion

TelecityGroup has been selected by The Planet to provide colocation and connectivity for its first European data centre, located in London. The move is part of a global expansion and continued investment in The Planet’s data centre network, to ensure it provides a global redundant infrastructure to meet customer demand.

With over 42% of its customers located internationally, over the last 18 months The Planet has undertaken an evaluation to find the markets of most strategic importance to its customers. Extending to Europe was at the forefront of these discussions, but rather than outlay a considerable investment to build its own data centre, The Planet has decided to use TelecityGroup’s Powergate data centre and resilient connectivity to deliver virtualised services to its customers.

“Our customers choose us because of the state-of-the-art facilities and enterprise-class network we offer them, and it was important to replicate this same high standard in Europe,” said The Planet’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Douglas J. Procedures in the new facility comply with ISO 9001:2000, which benchmarks quality processes for data centre operations and management. TelecityGroup is also taking the lead in driving energy efficiency in the data centre in Europe: it was the first data centre operator to sign up to the new EU Code of Conduct for data centres and is also a member of the Green Grid.
